How to use the Eisenhower Matrix with ADHD
Sort what is urgent from what matters, then turn the quadrant into one doable next action.

Start with one capture place
Before you prioritize, gather the loose tasks that are taking up attention. Put them in one inbox without sorting every detail. A single capture place gives you a calmer starting point and makes it easier to see the whole load.
If a task is still vague, keep the rough wording for now. You can clarify it when you decide whether it belongs in today’s plan.
Sort by urgency and importance
Urgent means a deadline or consequence is close. Important means the task supports a meaningful responsibility or goal. Those are different questions, even when a task feels loud.
Use the four quadrants as a guide, not a scorecard: do urgent and important work soon; schedule important work before it becomes urgent; decide what to do with urgent tasks that matter less; and remove or defer tasks that are neither.
- Ask what changes if this waits a day.
- Check whether the deadline is real, shared, and close.
- If a task has several steps, sort the next action rather than the whole project.
Make the matrix easier to use day to day
A matrix is useful when it helps you choose. It becomes extra work when every task needs perfect labels. Start by sorting only the tasks you might act on, and leave uncertain items in your inbox until you have more information.
Pick a small number of tasks for today, then write the first visible action for each one. “Open the document and write the first heading” is easier to begin than “finish the report.” Revisit the matrix when deadlines or priorities change.
Try it in ChaTodo
Add “Send the quote on Thursday” to your tasks. Put it in the urgent and important quadrant if the deadline is close, then break it into a first action such as “Open the draft quote.” Move it if the deadline changes.
A useful matrix ends with a next step
Use the quadrants to reduce the choice set, then choose one action you can see and start. The tool should make planning lighter, so adjust the method whenever it starts to feel like another task.
